Earlier today, denniswine posted an excellent diary here [
http://www.dailykos.com/...], regarding the recent tazing of a UCLA student, and the seeming lack of student outrage. Some of the comments to this diary seemed to imply that college students don't really care about anything that doesn't benefit them personally.
I would like to write about a group of college students who DO care about something more than what benefits them.
My older daughter attends Tusculum College, a small school in northeastern Tennessee. A month or so ago, Tusculum held its annual "Nettie Day" (named in honor of the school's first major benefactor, Nettie Fowler McCormick).
Groups of Tusculum College students could be found Thursday surveying creek banks, painting school playground equipment, and repairing a riding rink used in the rehabilitation of individuals with brain injuries.
I am proud to say that my daughter was one of these students.
